Thanks to the Internet, studying at home has never been easier. If social distancing and staying at home have given you extra pockets of time, make sure to put them to good use. Here are some tips for studying English without spending a dime:

  • Reading practice is everywhere: There are countless free reading sources online. For higher levels newspapers and books are a great place to start. For lower levels, websites made for ESL students will make learning vocabulary and grammar easier.
  • Listen to podcasts: In addition to watching TV and listening to music, podcasts are a great way to get listening practice. Nowadays there are podcasts to suit every interest under the sun. There are even ESL podcasts designed specifically for students.
  • Find a Tandem partner: Now is a unique time because almost everyone in the world is learning how to navigate the Coronavirus. You can see how others are managing using a free online app, like Tandem, to communicate with other English speakers.
  • Go back to the basics: In many ways, it feels like the world is currently on pause. This is a rare opportunity to bring out your old class notes and review any concepts you’ve been meaning to practice.
