OVERVIEW

Last year, the highest-paid Youtuber was an eight-year-old boy, whose audience consisted primarily of children. As most Youtubers are, this boy was paid to advertise certain toys and companies. Advertising to children can be found everywhere from Youtube to billboards. Is this type of marketing problematic?

It’s a no-no!No big deal!
The point of marketing is to convince the consumer to purchase the product. Children do not have income of their own to spend on products. Instead, they rely on their parents. Parents are then in a position of having to spend money on the product or listen to their child continuously beg for the product. Moreover, some products, like fast food items marketed towards children, will be detrimental to their health.Parents should teach their children to be critical about the advertisements they see. They need to think critically before deciding whether they need the product or not. Parents should take time to educate their children on the difference between products they need versus products they want. If the child continuously begs the parent, then it reflects badly on the parent who tolerates this behavior.
