In social justice literature, equity means access to opportunity, resources, and services. While equality aims to provide everyone with equal treatment, equity focuses on people’s individual needs and aspirations.

For example, equality ensures everyone gets to where they need to go (i.e. the second floor), whereas equity focuses on the various ways they might get there (i.e. stairs, ramps, elevators).

It can also ask – does everyone even want to go to the same place? Check out the resources below to learn more about this concept and its applications.
