In many high schools in the US, students need to finish community service hours before they graduate. This means they need to spend time helping their community. Some students choose to tutor other students for free, while other students choose to volunteer with animals. Volunteering, for people of all ages, has numerous benefits.
- Meet new people: Through volunteering, you meet people who have similar interests and goals as you. It is a great place to network and build contacts which may help you in a future career.
- Build self-confidence: Helping others will in turn make you feel better. It will give you a sense of accomplishment in having contributed to someone else’s well-being.
- Have fun: Choose a project that excites you. If you love animals, volunteer at an animal shelter. If you enjoy gardening, help build a garden at a school or a nursing home.
- Enhance your skill-set: You will learn new and exciting skills which you will be able to use in the future, either as a job or a hobby.
- Do you volunteer anywhere? If so, where? If not, why not?
